Celebrating Excellence at ASEG 2024 Awards Ceremony

We are deeply honoured to share that John McGaughey, President of Mira Geoscience, has been awarded the 2024 Grahame Sands Award by the Australian Society of Exploration Geophysicists (ASEG). This prestigious recognition highlights his dedicated advocacy and leadership over decades, driving innovation in geophysical inversion and interpretation technologies. John’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of applied geophysics has not only shaped the development of Mira Geoscience but has also significantly impacted the broader geoscience community worldwide.

John’s work has consistently aimed to bridge the gap between geophysics and geology, ensuring that cutting-edge software solutions and methodologies better serve industries such as mineral exploration and geotechnical hazard assessment in mining operations. His contributions, particularly in geophysical inversion, have empowered professionals to make more informed decisions through enhanced data interpretation and modelling capabilities.

We are equally thrilled to congratulate Peter Fullagar at Fullagar Geophysics, a long-time partner of Mira Geoscience and creator of the powerful VPmg software. Peter was awarded ASEG’s ‘Gold Medal,’ the highest honour bestowed by the society, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to both the practical and theoretical realms of exploration geophysics. Over a remarkable career spanning more than 40 years, Peter has been a key figure in advancing geophysical techniques, not only in Australia but on the international stage.

The awards were presented during ASEG’s Honours and Awards ceremony at the DISCOVER Symposium on Friday, October 18, 2024, in Hobart, Australia. This event provided a fitting platform to celebrate the achievements of these two pioneers, whose work continues to inspire the next generation of geophysicists and reshape the field of exploration geophysics.
