What’s new in software? GOCAD Mining Suite version 18 release
Our next release will be GOCAD Mining Suite 18 on top of SKUA-GOCAD 18 and will take advantage of usability and productivity improvements implemented by Emerson. All your favourite Mining Suite commands and functionality will be included in this upcoming version.
The new Control Menu will be the primary access for all windows and tools such as workflows or the 3D-GIS Task Pane. Here, users will also see a list of the last used windows and a list of proposed windows for the current project.

The Control Menu will also enable you to search for windows by typing keywords at the bottom of the window. All windows and tools containing your input text will be proposed. Icons are also added on the task bar for all opened (and minimized) windows. With these icons you can show or hide the windows and see a thumbnail preview of the contents.

In addition to the Control Menu, the view and layout management have been improved to include:
- Optimized use of the workspace with interactive and flexible tiling of 2D and 3D views
- Drag-and-drop to place views anywhere in the workspace
- The ability to quickly switch between workspace layouts as needed.
So, what’s next for GOCAD Mining Suite
We have been talking a great deal about our geophysical software lately and the Mining Suite is no exception. It’s the only software that allows you to truly build plausible geological models, consistent with both geological and geophysical data. Its 3D interpretation and modelling environment allows testing of geological ideas with geophysical forward modelling and using inversions to update parts of a geological model providing, for example, new insights into the geometry of geological objects at depth. At Mira Geoscience, we use this platform everyday in our interpretational consulting project work for creating consistent earth models from multiple data sets.
With all the development we’ve been actively doing for the upcoming release of Geoscience ANALYST Pro to provide a low-cost, easy-to-use interface for forward modelling and inversion of potential fields we thought it was a great opportunity to expand our basic GOCAD Mining Suite package with similar options.
“It becomes a geophysics-for-geologists tool. We’re really looking forward to releasing this to our users soon.” says Jennifer Levett – Product Development Manager.

Jennifer is a Senior Consultant who oversees our GOCAD Mining Suite software training and technical support. A geophysicist by background, she has 20+ years’ experience constructing 3D multi-disciplinary geological models in a wide variety of mineral exploration and mining applications. Prior to Mira Geoscience, Jennifer worked in mineral exploration for major mining companies in Australia and Canada, as well in near-mine geophysical exploration in Papua New Guinea. She obtained a BSc Honours in Geology and Geophysics at the University of Sydney. Jennifer is based in Montreal.
