3D visualization is critical to both the earth modelling process and to interpretation. Data quality control, correct appreciation of complex structural geometry, and simultaneous visualization of multiple model components are all important to analysis and interpretation. GOCAD® has an intrinsically superior 3D visualization capability. Advanced control of lighting, transparency, texture mapping, property rendering and co-rendering, and stereo parameters mean that GOCAD models are much more interpretationally useful, visually, than anything on offer from other geoscience software. GOCAD’s availability on both Windows and a variety of Unix platforms means it can be used with large visualization systems. GOCAD was chosen to drive the mining-focused 3D virtual reality centres at, amongst others, both the Saskatchewan Research Council and at Laurentian University’s Mirarco research unit. It is used in virtual reality centres throughout the petroleum world. We work with our partner Cyviz to provide clients with a range of practical 3D stereo hardware systems from inexpensive, portable, desktop or ceiling-mounted stereo projection systems to permanent, multi-projector, edge-blended solutions.
